Nelson, BC (December 1, 2022) – The Holiday Market is back at the Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery, where holiday shoppers can find the perfect gift for everyone on their list, from over 120 local artists and artisans. This year, the tree is heavy with beautiful handmade ornaments, and there are gifts of all shapes and sizes, and for all budgets, ready to brighten someone’s holiday.
“Our focus this year has really been on providing beautiful, affordable, useful items, and highlighting the immensely talented regional artists,” says Visitor Services and Shop Manager Cindy Fillion. “We have a great mix this year of new artists and longtime favourites, and are adding new featured items all season.”
One such new artist is Patricia (PJ) Gilhuly, a Ktunaxa artist whose work may be familiar – she has painted two murals as part of the International Mural Festival. Her cards feature beautiful winterscapes and stylized animals with holiday messages. Other card artists include Lily Mayall, Maya Heringa, Cole McCallum, Cindy Moore, Amelia Bressey Chapman, Stephanie Myers, and more.
Shoppers can also delight in the two gallery exhibitions; Back on Track is a historical exploration of Kootenay railways, and Where We Stand, which opened in mid-November, examines the past, present, and future of the Museum.
The Nelson Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and open late (until 8pm) on Thursdays. The Museum will be open until 3 pm on December 24, and closed for the holidays – reopening on Tuesday, January 3 at 10am.
