The Collection

The artifact collection at the Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery includes roughly 8,000 pieces acquired since the institution was founded in 1955. The collection continues to grow, with new donations arriving from community members and organizations, both local and farther afield, almost every week.

Together, these artifacts represent a wide range of Nelson and District history. From speedboats to hat pins, and from commemorative medals to lacrosse sticks, the museum preserves, documents, and makes accessible objects that hold meaningful connections to our community’s past.

We also work closely with local Indigenous groups to care for and display both ancient and contemporary artifacts, ensuring these pieces can be available for cultural events. Visit our online collection database to explore archival records, photos, maps and collection items.
