Storytime in the Little Library is a virtual read-along series produced initially in response to the pandemic closures, in order to continue providing free family programming at the Museum. The stories are read by local community leaders, and features books that are racially-diverse, LGBTQ2S-positive, inclusive children’s books, sometimes related to the current gallery exhibitions, sometimes in response to the social landscape, and sometimes just because they are wonderful, welcoming stories. Bringing these books into the Little Library and Museum Shop is just one small thing we can do to ensure more voices are present in this space.
Children are opened minded, creative individuals who want to see the possibilities for their lives and the lives around them reflected in their games, books and stories. Reading beautiful books about a life like or unlike their own creates opportunity for positive growth and reflection.
(A note: some of this content was created before the Nelson Museum’s rebrand, which happened in fall 2022.)
We plan to continue adding to this free virtual library, so every child will be able to see themselves represented in a positive, supportive, environment.
