SUSTAINABILITY

Breaking Trail on the Columbia River

At the Nelson Museum, we believe that to preserve the past, we must protect the future. As a cultural institution, we can inspire change through the actions that we take, and we are committed to making a commitment toward a greener planet.

What we’re doing:

To reduce our carbon footprint, we are installing motion sensor lighting in the Galleries and solar reflective film on the 3rd floor office windows.

To minimize waste we recycle all paper materials, as well as used markers, pens, paints, and other programming materials. We have initiated a composting program for the 3rd floor kitchen.

Exhibitions include essential dialogue about the environment, land use, resource management, and sustainability whenever possible. We partner with local environmental groups to provide critical conversation and resources for these shows and develop programming that continues the conversation.

We have created a Sustainability Lead staff position to implement these changes and update our policies and procedures to ensure that we continue working toward a sustainable future.

We are BC Green Business certified!
