Utopia Unveiled Closing Party w/ Laura Landsberg and Carol Gaskin
Friday, September 27 | 7-9pm
We wrap up the Utopia Unveiled exhibition with a closing party with performances from Carol Gaskin and Laura Landsberg. Gaskin’s performance, Untangling: The Art of Honouring Ancestors, features collage video and poetry reading. Landsberg’s piece, Lines: tracing an unconventional story through Poetry and Music uses song, poetry, and art to craft spontaneous compositions.
Laura has been a valued member of the musical community in the Kootenays for over 40 years, as an instructor at Selkirk College, an MDH breathing coordination coach, and a private voice coach, and has participated in various musical projects. As part of the composition process, Laura and guests will create spontaneous musical inventions that articulate the story of LINES, Laura’s first journey into writing her own words to sing.
Carol is a counsellor, teacher, and artist who has been heavily involved in the arts in Canada and the US since the mid-70s. She worked with paper clay which led to an interest in collage. Her recent book, Untangling the Knot: the Art of Honouring Ancestors, showcases nearly four dozen collage pieces. UNTANGLING is a multi-media presentation featuring collage images and poetry readings.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
