The 2nd floor of the Nelson Museum is dedicated to local history of the region, covering people, places, and events from time immemorial, to the arrival of settlers and industry growth, and touches on the expansion of the railways, dam-building, sporting history, Roxanne, and so much more, in order to inspire critical thinking and encourage open discourse.
Also featured in the Museum space is a permanent installation of Jaime Black’s The REDress Project — an extension of the original REDress Project that began in 2009 and toured to the Museum in 2021. We are humbled and honoured to be one of only two locations in Canada to house a permanent installation of the REDress Project, and extend our thanks to Jaime for her trust.
Updates to the current Museum Exhibition (originally created in 2006) are currently in the early planning stages. The new space will incorporate the contributions from community consultation through projects such as Missing Voices, 5 Things 5 Kids Say, and the interactive video module, as well as through research done for gallery exhibitions such as She.We.They., The Unknown Remains, OTIPEMISIWAK: The People Who Own Themselves, The Grow Show, Making Waves, and more.
