Making Waves on the West Arm
Nelson, BC (August 2, 2023) – Kootenay Lake has long been a hub of activity, from the earliest sturgeon-nosed canoes to modern day sporting activities such as paddleboarding and kitesurfing. The latest exhibition opening at the Nelson Museum Archives & Gallery, Making Waves, explores this history through artifacts, photographs, and archival film from the Museum collection. The exhibition opens on Friday, August 18 @ 7pm with a free reception open to the public, and runs until October 28 in Gallery B.
Explore family through film in Otanimm/Otinimm
Nelson, BC (May 4, 2023) – The artist skill and technical prowess of both father and daughter are on full display in Otanimm/Onnimm (Daughter/Father), the upcoming exhibition by Terrance Houle and Neko Wong-Houle, showing at the Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery from May 20 to August 5, 2023. The short film was created using several techniques, including dialogue, music, traditional animation, and stop-motion, as well as more unconventional approaches such as experimental DIY photography using Caffenol – coffee/vitamin C developer – and 2D rotoscoping.
Historic Gyro Park plaque donated to the Nelson Museum
Nelson, BC (March 21, 2023) – A piece of the historic Gyro Park bridge will live on in the Shawn Lamb Archives at the Nelson Museum, thanks to a donation from the Nelson Gyro Club. The bridge was recently dismantled due to failing structural integrity.

Big changes to promote inclusion and access at the Museum
Nelson, BC (February 28, 2022): In 2006, this second-floor museum exhibition at Touchstones Nelson: Museum of Art and History was created by a dedicated team of historians, staff, and volunteers; now over 15 years later, this display is outdated in its museology. There is a clear need to update this space to reflect the diverse community we live in, and to amplify underrepresented voices of the past and present.

The film, Queering the Interior, explores the history and advocacy of the LGBTQ2S+ community in Nelson and area, and shares the stories of some of the folks involved in this historical movement.
